Trude Helén Hole is a Norwegian author, journalist, artist, sommelier, wine course provider and speaker. She discovered her true love and excitement for wine in 1996, when she started as a wine importer who, in contrast to her competitors, focused and prioritized overseas wine, which at the time was not particularly regarded in the Europe-oriented Norway.
At the time, she became one of Norway’s first female managers within wine imports, and as a woman she probably thought a little differently, not only about the wine industry – but also about wine, then what her male colleagues in the industry did. Women and men have different preferences when it comes to taste, feel and tannins, and this fact has probably influenced her journey in the world of wine.
She is thus, with her fearless and curious nature and ability to new approaches, a pioneer in the Norwegian wine industry, and that in several ways.

The first TV-show about wine in Norway
Trude Helén Hole got her diploma as a sommelier at Gastronomisk Institutt in Stavanger, Norway in 1998. As a trained sommelier and with her experience of running wine imports for 6 years, and as a journalist for several decades – she produced Norway’s first TV series about wine as well as Norway’s first digital wine courses that is very popular in Norway.
The first Norwegian TV-show about wine went on air in 2011. In this TV series, she traveled around in Europe with specially selected guests, visiting small and large family-run wineries in Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy and France.
Hole is also a journalist, and has been writing about wine for almost 30 years for various newspapers and magazines, and is also the founder and writer of the blog Wine! Her main motivation is to bring wine closer to people in an easygoing and entertaining way.
Wine courses
Today, Trude Helén Hole provides wine courses and is a lecturer at “På Druen digitale vinkurs” at Feather Book, Wine & Art where she introduces the art of wine in a very easygoing and understandable way for everyone to enjoy. She also organizes wine tastings for restaurants, companies and private events.
The passion that she has developed for almost three decades in the wine-industry, including teaching classes, is limitless and has resulted in wine experiences becoming a way of life. She currently lives in Norway and spends a lot of time on her small farm on the Helgeland coast in the northern part of Norway, but travel a lot to experience more about the Art of Wine.
As a teacher, author and journalist, her aim is to experience more and increase the knowledge about grapes and wine from all around the world.
In addition to the aforementioned, she has a YouTube channel dedicated to literature, art, travels and experiences and of course wine, with the aim of reaching people with her mission – the Art of Living.
She is also a well-known Norwegian author
Of course, she has written a book about wine, but is probably better known as the author of the popular, exciting and humorous books about the unconventional Lotte-Marie, Norway’s feminine answer to Harry Hole by Jo Nesbø and Varg Veum by Gunnar Staalelsen.
This serie is a product of the authors experience – the series main-character is also working within the wine-industry in Norway and she is very proud of her excellent nose…
Norwegian record for a debutant. The Truth About Lotte-Marie, Uncensored is Trude Helén Hole’s debut novel and the first about the rather unconventional character Lotte-Marie and how she makes a name for herself in the wine industry in Norway. The novel was published by N.W. Damm & Søn Forlag in 2006 and sold over 6,000 in the first edition which at the time was a Norwegian record.
According to media and readers, the books about Lotte-Marie from the north coast in Norway, are simply the best within the humor genre, and are often referred to as Norway’s feministic, refreshing and humorous answers to our gloomy, tired and semi-alcoholic crime heroes such as Harry Hole and Varg Veum written by Jo Nesbø and Gunnar Staalelsen.
